Our group worked extremely well together throughout the Love Lantern project. My group was made up of Jenny Lovstrom and Mariana Alvarez and our collaboration was phenomenal. This, I believe, led to the fantastic product we ended up with. We all brought a lot of really good ideas into light when making the lantern for our Brookdale resident, Rona, and ended up using at least one idea from each member. However, when it came to our adult piece some ideas dominated others and we didn’t really incorporate everyone’s ideas. That said, our adult piece also came out really nice.
For this project we studied love and its many different forms. One piece of text that we read throughout this project was Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. In the book we read and studied the love between lovers, family, and friends. There was the classic love story between Romeo and Juliet, Lady Montague’s love for Romeo, Benvolio’s concern for Romeo, and the relationship between Juliet and the nurse. We also had anthropology lessons that exposed love in different cultures. For example, in some cultures, arranged marriage is something that showcases the beginning of love. Which then leads to the two growing to love each other. As opposed to our culture where marriage is the last step that shows the ultimate and last step in a loving relationship. On top of all that, we interviewed many different people and asked them what love meant to them. We got a lot of varying answers from love being just girlfriends and boyfriends to it being someone who you want to spend the rest of your life with. It was amazing to get out and talk to strangers for hours and listen to their stories of love.
In physics we learned about electricity. We learned how to calculate power, resistance, and current. We were able to calculate these over a period of time and we were able to convert certain units into the proper units needed to calculate each variable. I struggled with most of the calculations for most of this project but started getting it as the end of the project came around.
