1. How challenging was this project for you? Be specific.
This project was fairly difficult for me because of the writing portion. To start off, I am not a very good writer. I make spelling and grammar mistakes now and then and it’s hard for me to organize my thoughts on paper. It was also hard finding a certain example of theme, foreshadowing, and flashbacks in my life that were both significant but not too personal. Another thing I struggled with was coming up with a creative visual that went along with my writing pieces. My peers all had really creative visuals and I couldn’t come up with one for the longest time.
2. What was the easiest part of this project?
The easiest part of this project was probably creating my visual piece. After I finally figured out what I wanted to do, actually putting it together was super easy. A few of the paragraphs were also pretty straightforward and simple to write. For example, the conflict and symbolism paragraphs were easy to write.
3. How comfortable did you feel during your presentation?
I felt 100% comfortable giving my presentation in class. I was comfortable explaining each and every paragraph I wrote and, because I don’t mind reading aloud, I found it easy to read an excerpt from my pieces. I was a little unsure about how to present and talk about my visual jars but I figured it out as I went. Explaining something more personal proved a little more difficult just because I didn’t know how to do it properly and to the point where other people could see the significance.
4. Did you receive critique and feedback from anyone (teacher, parent, classmate, etc)? If so, who? Was the feedback helpful?
I received critique on this project from two of my peers, my teacher, and my parent. In class we were given time to read each other’s pieces so my piece was read by Anil Kraft and Nia Asbill. Most of the feedback I received from my peers was strictly grammatical/spelling feedback however, my teacher (Ms.Heller) and my mom gave me advice on what to write. As mentioned before, I had a lot of difficulties with certain subjects like foreshadowing and flashbacks but they both allowed me to talk my ideas out and offered advice on what I could consider writing. This feedback was extremely helpful in writing and completing my project.
5. Did you provide kind, specific, and helpful feedback in the peer review session? Who did you assess? Explain.
Since we were given a specific time in class to critique our peer’s writing, I gave feedback on two different papers. I assessed Nia and Anil and I think I provided useful feedback for the two. Both have really good writing styles on their own so there wasn’t very much to critique other than a few spelling mistakes.
6. Do you think you were on task for the vast majority of the time given in class to work on writing and construction? Explain.
For the entirety of the project I was on task and finished most of my work in class. The time we were given in class was especially helpful since the week of this project we had a lot of other stuff going on. Having this project on top of our Banned Book project, Week of Inspirational Math, and the multitude of Spanish and art assignments made me really appreciate the time we got in class.
7. What grade do you think you deserve? Why?
I believe I deserve an A on this project because my final product looked good, explained who I am as a person, met most if not all requirements, and I stayed on task for the entire duration of the project.
8. If you could change something about this project, what would it be?
I enjoyed doing this project but one thing I would change would probably be the critique sessions. I think maybe adding a few more critique sessions would be helpful. To me, the critique sessions were incredibly helpful. I also think it would be beneficial to have them with different people, perhaps 4 or 5 different people.
