Nikolova's InterviewInternship Reflection
0 Comments
What strikes you most about your workplace?I really enjoy being at school but in a room by myself or with one or two other people. It's super different from when we're here for class. The atmosphere is totally different and I feel like people treat you differently when you're there as a visitor than when you're there as a student. What strikes you the most about your colleagues?I love being around Nikolova. People last year asked me if I ever got tired of her when I had her for three or four hours every day but I never did. I think we have a really neat dynamic where we can exist in the same space for long periods of time without getting too bothered by each other. She's my favorite crazy cat lady. In addition to her, I've been spending a lot of time with Zulema, which makes the day less lonely. We sit in the multimedia room and listen to music while working on our projects, even though we don't talk a ton, it's cozy. Other than these two, I've been spending a lot of time with the underclassmen who are extremely friendly, I really enjoy talking with them because they're all super funny and weird. What strikes you the most about the job you're doing? The yearbook requires a lot of work. When I signed up for yearbook I had no idea how much went into it and now that my internship revolves around it, I'm starting to see that there's a lot of little details that go into it. Sometimes it seems overwhelming but it's just a lot of little things, as opposed to a few, or a lot, of big things. What are you looking forward to during your internship? It seems like it will be very independent but like I'll have a lot of support. I look forward to starting my projects and getting a lot of yearbook work done. I'm excited to see how my project plays out. What wonderings do you have about your role and/or your workplace?I'm not sure if I should be referring to Nikolova as a 11th grade humanities teacher or as the yearbook coordinator.
Where are you going? My internship is at High Tech High North County and I spend the majority of my time in Ms.Petrick's room or walking around the school interviewing people from 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. Who is your mentor and what do they do?My mentor is Teodora Nikolova, she's an 11th grade teacher by day and yearbook crew by elective. Describe your project and daily responsibilities...Everyday I get to school at 8:30am and I sit down with Nikolova and talk about what I'm going to get done that day. The end goal is to have a finished senior portion of the yearbook and to set up a 90s week at school. In order to get to that goal I need to do a lot of little things like come up with fun mini-features and figure out the layout of the yearbook itself. In short, I'm collecting content to put into the yearbook. What are you excited about learning through this internship experience? With this internship I think the most difficult part will be figuring out what events to do during my yearbook advertisement week. Something I'll struggle with is making decisions about what things will be included so hopefully I'll be able to figure that out. I'm excited to talk to our yearbook rep and learn about the statistics of yearbook sales and who's buying the yearbook. I want to be able to target a certain group of students who wouldn't otherwise buy a yearbook and get them to buy one.
